NATURALE SCONOSCIUTO
Sound ritual by and with Mariangela Gualtieri, with the guidance of Cesare Ronconi
A production by Teatro Valdoca.
"For more than twenty years, I have lived in an uncultivated countryside. Beneath my house there is a forest that I enter whenever I can. I have realized that this landscape has changed my thoughts; it has entered my breath and my heart, and in an inexplicable way it has led me to write many poems, perhaps in a stunned attempt to approach this Unknown Natural, this totality of what is born, alive, and teeming with life. This landscape is for me a source of daily joy and also, at times, of fear—with its inhabited darkness, its shattering violence, its overflowing eros. Every word of this sound ritual of mine can be seen as dictated by something I thought I knew, but which instead continually renews its enigma within me and around me, often leaving me speechless."
Mariangela Gualtieri is a poet, playwright, and co-founder of Teatro Valdoca, a company she has led together with director Cesare Ronconi since 1983. Born in Cesena, she graduated in architecture at IUAV University of Venice, but her life and artistic path are deeply rooted in poetry and Italian theatre.
She has always been interested in the oral dimension of poetry, exploring the relationship between word, voice, and live music, creating works born from the encounter between poetic language and performative experience. Her writing draws inspiration from everyday life and nature, which she observes and describes with attention to its most vivid and mysterious details.
Author of numerous collections, including Fuoco Centrale, Bestia di gioia, Quando non morivo, and Bello mondo, her poetry is recognized for its ability to combine emotional depth and sonic intensity, transforming every reading or performance into an immersive and engaging experience.
With Teatro Valdoca, Mariangela Gualtieri has developed a unique path in which poetry becomes ritual, voice, and stage action, bringing the audience closer to a “unknown natural” made of wonder, mystery, and pulsating life.
