In the context of the centenary celebrations of the Hospitality Feast, on Monday, July 20, the Giardini della Rocca in Bertinoro will host the performance “Il sogno di una cosa” by and with Elio Germano and Teho Teardo. The event is part of the Entroterre Festival programme.
Elio Germano and Teho Teardo bring to the stage "Il sogno di una cosa" by Pier Paolo Pasolini in a version combining spoken word and music.
A production by Pierfrancesco Pisani for Infinito and Argot Produzioni, in co-production with Fondazione Teatro della Toscana, with the support of the Tuscany Region.
Three young men from Friuli, on the threshold of adulthood, live their brief youth facing the world: rural poverty, emigration, political struggle, and eventual integration into the bourgeois society of the economic boom. They seek happiness and a better life in a foreign country, develop political awareness, and dream of revolution, only to eventually surrender to the compromises of adulthood—until they die working.
Pasolini speaks through the voices of people who, in post-war Italy, exhausted by poverty, fled illegally across the border into Yugoslavia, drawn by communism and the hope of finding dignified work and food for all.
Seen today, it resembles a reversed Balkan route crossing the same border that present-day refugees traverse to reach Italy.
Perhaps we have forgotten it, but there was a time—not so long ago—when we were the ones relying on smugglers.
